What Fife collect

This list reflects typical council practice rather than Fife's own published rules (checked 18 August 2026). Always confirm when booking.

  • Sofas and armchairs
  • Mattresses and bed frames
  • Wardrobes and large furniture
  • Fridges and freezers
  • Washing machines and other white goods
  • Carpets and rugs

Will not collect

  • Bathroom suites and kitchen units
  • Garden waste
  • Hazardous waste, paint and chemicals
  • Car parts and tyres

Access rules and limitations

  • Maximum 18 units per collection (units based on size, weight and difficulty of disposal)
  • 180 booking slots available per day across Fife, first come first served
  • Only items on the council's approved list can be collected
  • Service can be suspended at short notice; bulky uplifts were suspended for about a week in 2026 after a fire at the Lower Melville Woods waste centre

Kerbside-only rules are the norm across the UK; crews are not insured to enter your home. If nobody can get your items outside, see your options when you can't lift it.

No lifting at all with WasteSpeed: a two-person crew carry from any room of the house, on your area's route day each week, from £199. Book online →

Direct WebFetch to fife.gov.uk was blocked by this session's network egress policy (the same host that returned bot-detection blocks on a previous check). Charge and booking-slot detail were gathered via web search summaries of official council pages and a local news report on the 2026 waste-centre fire and suspension. Attempted to deepen the item list this run but this session's WebSearch quota was exhausted (200 of 200 used) before Fife's item-list query could run, and WebFetch to fife.gov.uk and to general search engines remained blocked on retest. The council's own 'Items we collect' list page exists but its contents were not confirmed, so itemsVerified stays false and the typical UK default list is kept rather than guessed. Current wait time was not confirmed.
